Canoe Money, July 28, 2008
We recently came across this interesting article about e-mail etiquette. Sure, we’ve all been taught to keep our elbows off the dinner table and to always shake someone’s hand when you first meet, but e-mail “do’s & don’ts” are a new etiquette minefield. Who knew there was a right and wrong way to type? According to this article, there are ten rules to keep in mind when sending an e-mail. The most interesting to us is number five, which suggests that more than 40 percent of e-mail gets read by someone other than the recipient. With that in mind, the author suggests that when typing an e-mail, keep in mind that the communication may very well end up in the hands of someone besides your target audience. In other words, would you be embarrassed if your words were leaked?
Take a look at the article for the full etiquette list. Are there are tips you’d like to add? If so, take a minute and jot them down below – we’d love hear your ideas.
