Some Opening Ceremony fireworks were faked
Yahoo! Sports, August 10, 2008
As we’ve said in a previous blog post, you shouldn’t always believe what you see…even the fireworks display at the 2008 Beijing Olympics’ Opening Ceremony. According to London’s Telegraph newspaper, some of the fireworks that were seen on television were computer generated. However, unlike the other photographs we’ve blogged about, this image was tampered with for good reason.
“The faked fireworks were actually set-off at the stadium, but because of potential dangers in filming the display live from a helicopter, viewers at home were shown a pre-recorded, computer-generated shot. It sounds dishonest, but I’m not sure it’s such a terrible thing.”
Regardless of that fact that this was done for the sake of safety, it still proves that any one of us can be fooled with an image. Even one as beautiful as this.
